Plástico Brasil fosters international participation and promotes new business opportunities
With seven international pavilions, the fourth edition of Plástico Brasil consolidates its presence and bolsters Brazil’s strategic role in the global plastics industry
Sao Paulo, March 26, 2025 – The 2025 edition of Plástico Brasil registered significantly greater international business participation, asserting itself among the most relevant events in the sector within Latin America. With a 38% rise compared to 2023, the fair demonstrated Brazil's importance in the global plastics industry scene, attracting international delegations interested in exploring business opportunities in the country.
According to Gino Paulucci Junior, Chairman of the Board of Directors of ABIMAQ, the Brazilian market continues to stand out as a key attraction for international businesses. “The Brazilian plastics industry is currently strong and growing, a fact which has sparked the interest of international delegations in doing business here,” he says.
In 2025, international companies decided to embrace Brazilian market opportunities by including their participation in the fair Plástico Brasil in their strategies. Exhibitors from Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, Italy, Germany, Taiwan and China present technological innovations, strengthen commercial partnerships and increase opportunities of investment in the Brazilian market.
With the global landscape more focused than ever on sustainability and innovation, such international presence at the fair illustrates the growing interest in innovative technologies and strategic collaboration. “Today we can see an expressive rise in international participation compared to the previous edition. The tendency is to keep growing and to set up new pavilions in the next editions,” reinforces Yeda Monteira, Informa Markets Business Manager.
According to Yeda, Brazil has established itself as an entryway to South America, attracting international visitors interested in doing business. Sandra Brogli, Trade Fair Project Manager at Switzerland Global Enterprise and representative of the Swiss pavilion, who also celebrates the success of the fair and is already making plans for 2027. “We can say that Plástico Brasil is a huge success. International exhibitors are highly satisfied. For 2027, we hope to expand our exhibition area,” she affirms.
In conformity with global standards, in order to take part in the event, foreign companies need to understand the Brazilian market and its economic, cultural and regulatory particularities. Exhibitors must align their strategies with local consumer behavior and sector-specific demands. “We offer consultancy to assist international exhibitors during their participation in the event, because doing business in Brazil demands understanding about taxes and the local market's specific legislations,” Yeda explains.
This alignment between local nuances and international solutions shows that, in order to be successful in Brazil, understanding the country's unique environment is essential. Conversely, such challenge can open doors to real opportunities for growth and lasting partnerships.
Considering this dynamic and innovative scenario, Plástico Brasil 2025 reaffirms its strategic role, not only as a stage for innovations, but also as a place for developing the connection between the Brazilian market and the global panorama. Plástico Brasil propels business and sustainability in the sector
Plástico Brasil 2025 gains momentum as a strategic platform for business and the exchange of technical and commercial skills
Sao Paulo, March 25, 2025 — Sustainability and circular economy lead the agenda of the Plástico Brasil 2025 in its second day, highlighting the plastic industry's commitment to responsible environmental practices. With an extensive audience at São Paulo Expo, the event featured effective solutions for waste reduction, recycling and the reuse of materials, gathering companies, specialists and initiatives that promote a new productive logic based on circularity.
“Sustainability is a current commitment of Plástico Brasil, going beyond the present, projecting towards the future. The fair is a place for dialogue and transformation, where we join forces to bolster the industry and build a more conscious and reliable future”, says Araceli Silveira, Vice President and Chief of the Sustainability Officer at Informa Markets.
Sustainability in focus
On the second day of the event, new talks heightened the discussion on sustainability, covering topics like circular economy and waste reuse. One of the fair's highlights - Danone, presenting its initiatives aimed at reducing the environmental impact of their packaging. The company shared its strategies, encouraging recycling, investments on sustainable materials and actions to strengthen circular economy, asserting their commitment to environmental responsibility.
"Establishing clear purposes is fundamental, so as to direct company goals, essential when promoting an ongoing dialogue between technical and commercial departments, to engage suppliers and pave the way for proposed solutions”, said Mariana Angotti, Danone Packaging Development Manager.
The current scenario reveals the agency of the matter: Brazil produces over 80 million tons of waste annually, out of which less than 9% is recycled, and over 40% is discarded inappropriately, explains Leonardo Gomes, Director of Operations at Yattó Logística Reversa,
“We are talking about massive use of open dumping sites, it is a prominent social problem in Brazil. While there is a broad working-class responsible for applying reverse logistics, multiple materials still hold no market value. Numerous brands do not contemplate recycling their product packaging, and at the end of the line, waste pickers are the ones who pay this bill”, Gomes highlights.
Despite the challenges, the director underlines the current progress. According to data from 2024, denoting base year 2023, the recycling index of post-consumption plastics reached 20.6%. “One noteworthy action by the Federal Government was to open space for collecting subsidies through the course of one month, with entities from different sectors and waste picker cooperatives contributing initiatives directed toward recycling”, adds Gomes.
Aside from promoting debates about sustainability, Plástico Brasil underscored technological advances applied to various sectors, like civil construction, F&B, Fragrance Industry, Hygiene and Home Care Products, among others. José Ricardo Roriz Coelho, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Abiplast, emphasized the strategic importance of the plastics sector, which is today the fourth most influential industry in the country, and highlighted the impact on various production chains. “This is one of the most relevant segments in both developed countries and emerging economies. To guarantee active competitiveness, it is imperative to invest in recycling and to ensure fair trade conditions with the competition”, he affirmed.
“Today, machines have a fundamental role in the recycling process, turning waste into valuable resources in an efficient and sustainable way. They are tools shaping the future, allowing us to recover materials and widen the circularity of plastics. We witness the event's growth with each edition, reflecting the evolution and technological innovation of the plastics industry”, highlighted Gino Paulucci Junior, Chairman of the Board of Directors of ABIMAQ.
Attractions
Sacola Circular (Circular Bag) is one of the fair's featured projects. It shows, in practice, the full circular economy cycle of plastic. During the event, bags are manufactured for exhibitors and visitors. Keeping with the plastics circularity, waste materials from bag production were turned into trash bags used at the fair. This entire process – from resin manufacturing to the final conversion of the product – is executed in partnership with Carnevalli, Extrusa Pack, G4 Máquinas, MTF Termoformadoras, Rulli and Valmart.
Another highlight is the Movimento Plástico Transforma, a space of 50m² that offers immersive and interactive experiences covering innovation in the use of plastics. Among other attractions, the Kinect experience allows visitors to simulate – through interactive technology – proper plastic waste collection and disposal. This initiative was promoted by PICPlast – Plano de Incentivo à Cadeia do Plástico (Plastics Chain Incentive Plan).
Projeto Recicla Plástico also occurs during the fair, and it relies on waste pickers to collect plastic products used in demonstrations conducted in the booths of registered exhibitors. This material is sent for screening and separation and later sold, where profits become donations for partner entities.
The Circular Economy Project - created by Instituto Soul do Plástico (Plastics Soul Institute) in partnership with Escola Técnica Estadual de Mairiporã (ETEC) - aims increase the lifecycle of plastic, converting plastic caps into cellphone holders. In this edition, one partner, Tampinha Legal (Cool Little Cap) promoted actions at Parque de Ideias to demonstrate the importance of collecting and recycling bottle caps, focusing on education and environmental awareness.

Plástico Brasil 2025: Innovation, Sustainability, and Opportunity at Latin America’s Leading Plastics Industry Event
Opening ceremony gathered key authorities who highlighted the importance of the sector for Brazil’s economy
São Paulo, March 24, 2025 – Plástico Brasil, one of Latin America’s largest events in plastics processing, opens its doors once again, bringing together the industry's leading figures for the event’s fourth edition. With a focus on innovation and technology, the fair has established itself as an essential meeting point for professionals, entrepreneurs, and specialists seeking cutting-edge solutions and new business opportunities. The opening ceremony welcomed government and industry authorities and underscored the plastics sector’s relevance to Brazil’s economic growth.
According to Gino Paolucci Júnior, Chairman of the Board at ABIMAQ, the event is a valuable opportunity to explore the many applications of plastics and to engage in dialogue with professionals about sustainability in the production chain.
“Plastic is not only an active agent in improving processes, but also in educating society about proper disposal and in strengthening the circular economy,” said Paolucci.
As well, ABIMAQ states that reinforcing the sector is key to achieving steady, sustainable economic development in the country. “This generates specialized jobs, income, and promotes both human and social development,” he concluded.
Chairman of the Board of ABIPLAST, José Ricardo Roriz Coelho, emphasized the strategic importance of the plastics sector as the fourth largest industrial segment in Brazil. “This segment of industry is also among the most important in both developed and emerging countries. The plastics industry is essential for the economic development of nations. In Brazil, the sector generates over R$130 billion in annual revenue and directly employs around 379,000 professionals, in addition to encompassing more than 14,000 transformation and recycling companies,” Roriz noted.
Plástico Brasil is an initiative of the Brazilian Machinery and Equipment Industry Association (ABIMAQ) and the Brazilian Plastics Industry Association (ABIPLAST), organized and promoted by Informa Markets.
“With each new edition, Plástico Brasil reinforces the presence and relevance of plastic as a versatile raw material, present in at least 90% of industries — whether as packaging, a component, or even the structure of the final product,” emphasized Gino Paolucci, Chairman of the Board of ABIMAQ.
This year’s edition brings together companies from 20 countries. In total, six pavillions are spread across 62,000 square meters — a major leap from the 34,000 square meters occupied in the first edition in 2017. By 2023, that number had risen to 40,000 square meters, consistently showcasing the latest in machinery, equipment, innovations, and digital solutions, while anticipating trends across the plastics production chain.
"We are industry, and we know that its strengthening is the key to achieving solid, continuous, and sustainable economic growth — and, consequently, the development of the country — through the generation of skilled jobs, income, and human and social development. Lastly, ABIMAQ continues its institutional mission, working tirelessly to improve the business environment and increase the sector's competitiveness, creating alternatives that enable national manufacturers to keep doing what they do best, even in the face of expensive credit and energy and an unstable global context," emphasized Paulucci.
Plastic is a versatile, lightweight material with high added value, enabling applications across several sectors of the economy, such as packaging, healthcare, agriculture, construction, and the automotive industry. Its durability contributes to product preservation and waste reduction, especially in the case of food. In medicine, it is essential for the manufacture of syringes, blood bags, and disposable equipment, ensuring safety and hygiene.
"Plastic is not the problem — it never was or ever will be. It will always be part of the solution. And through this work in circular economy, we will educate people, because while some plastics are used once, others can be used ten times and still be properly discarded," said Amilton Mainard, President of the Sectorial Chamber of Machinery and Accessories for the Plastics Industry (CSMAIP) at ABIMAQ.
“These impressive figures reflect the scale and relevance of the plastics industry for both the economy and society. The plastics sector holds a strategic position within Brazilian industry, being the fourth-largest industrial segment in the country,” reinforced José Roriz, President of ABIPLAST. “More than just generating jobs and driving the economy, this industry adds value to the production chain. For every unit of raw material used, we are able to multiply its value by an average of ten times.”
With ongoing investments and technological advancements, the plastics industry is expected to remain one of the key sectors for job creation in Brazil. “All industries rely on plastics — the automotive, naval, aerospace, healthcare industries, and all areas that make up global industry,” stated State Deputy Tomé Abduchi (Republicanos).
This year, the trade fair expects to attract 57,000 professionals. The industry projects a 3.7% increase in revenue from machinery and equipment manufacturing in 2025.
“Innovation in this industry is essential for various economic sectors in Brazil and around the world. The Escola Móvel de Nanotecnologia (SENAI) will also offer an interactive experience with cutting-edge scientific equipment, such as a scanning electron microscope and a particle analyzer, allowing direct contact with advances in nanoscience applied to the plastics industry.
ESG and Recycling initiatives
For the first time, the fair will host a Circular Economy project developed by the Sou do Plástico Institute, in partnership with the Escola Técnica Estadual (ETEC) of Mairiporã, which aims to extend the useful life of plastic. The project consists of demonstrating an interactive recycling process that transforms plastic caps into new products with greater added value, such as cell phone holders, using a mill and injection molding machine adapted for this operation.
Another highlight will be the Recicla Plástico Brasil Project, an initiative aimed at strengthening the recycling chain, which promotes integration between companies, organizations and society. The proposal seeks to increase the circularity of plastic and encourage more sustainable practices throughout the production chain.
The event also promotes the Segunda Sustentável initiative, which encourages responsible plastic consumption by proposing changes in behavior aimed at minimizing environmental impacts. The action reinforces the importance of reuse and proper disposal, encouraging more conscious attitudes on the part of companies and consumers.
The partnership with the Tampinha Legal project continues in this edition with a greater presence at the fair, promoting the collection of plastic caps for recycling, as well as encouraging environmental awareness through presentations in the Parque de ideias. The project dedicates the funds raised to social causes, combining sustainability with a positive impact on the community.
For the first time we will be running the Sacola Circular Project, which will provide visitors with educational experience, demonstrating how plastic can be a sustainable solution in the manufacture of recyclable bags, which will also be used in actions with exhibitors at the fair. The initiative highlights the benefits of recycling and the importance of using this material responsibly in everyday life.
Abinfer Business Center
We will be holding the 4th edition of the ABINFER BUSINESS CENTER - ABC 2025 at Plástico Brasil, an event that showcases toolmakers and suppliers to the tooling industry, providing an ideal environment for business and the exchange of experiences in the sector.
